Welcome to the website of the Folklore Library and Archive.
This is an independent library and archive, physically based in the South West of the UK, which aims to preserve an ever-growing repository of research material in the field of folklore for future generations of researchers. We hope to do this both through a physical library of books, artefacts and other materials and also via digitisation.
We are always happy to discuss donation of both books and other reference materials, and we actively seek to rescue and preserve documents which would otherwise be lost. We have already been instrumental in saving internationally important collections such as the document archive of the late Venetia Newall and Ray Loveday's research on Hikey Sprites. These and other important special collections can be found here. We would also love to receive copies of photos, audio or video recordings that you have made of folklore in action. Please contact us if you have something to share.
The website is continually developing as documents and projects are worked on. This is a living archive and so is likely to update regularly.
Please note that, whilst we consider this work to be of vital importance for the future, the Library and Archive is a non-profit organisation staffed voluntarily, which is self-sustaining through donations (of materials and time) and through fundraising and financial contributions from interested users. Our fundraising goals all aim at providing important materials and equipment for the archive on a project by project basis. Please look at our aims and see if you can help.
If you would like to donate materials, want to access archive holdings or discuss the project, please contact us.
Thank you,
